The Program

The Australia Timor-Leste Partnership for Human Development (PHD) supports the Government of Timor-Leste’s Strategic Development Plan 2011-2030 and reflects Australia’s commitment to work in partnership with Timor-Leste to enhance human development over the next decade. PHD’s vision is to improve the wellbeing of all people in Timor-Leste. It brings together, under one program, Australian Government investments in health, education, sanitation, water, nutrition, gender equality, disability and social protection.

The Position

The Protection Officer will provide a holistic response to Protection policy areas associated with PHD program implementation. The position will lead in the training of staff, partners and other stakeholders to increase awareness of essential Protection policies, with focus on Child Protection.

This key role will support program sectors and operations in the roll-out of wider awareness initiatives for all other critical policy areas including but not limited to: Domestic/Family Violence Policy, Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, Code of Conduct. The position will also regularly monitor compliance to ensure consistent implementation of protection policies and procedures across the program.

The ideal person will have:

  • Experience in the implementation of relevant protection policies, including but not limited to Child Protection
  • Practical experience as a trainer using established training materials and skilled facilitator in delivery of workshops with diverse audience, internal staff and external partners and stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to explain and simplify complex procedures into manageable tasks for diverse partners and stakeholders
  • Fluency in Tetum and English is essential.
