Job: Country Accountant


Do you have strong accounting skills? The ability to maintaining diligent financial oversight of the Facilities, provide guidance and capacity building to partners? Then you could be perfectly placed to join the dynamic team at Market Development Facility (MDF), supported by the Australian Government, as Country Accountant. MDF invests in innovative business to stimulate economic growth in a number of countries across the Asia–Pacific region, including Timor-Leste. MDF’s current focus is in Agribusiness, Processing and Rural Distribution and Manufacturing and Tourism to create additional employment and income earning opportunities for workers, farmers and small businesses. MDF plans to expand in other growing sectors of Timor-Leste’s economy. The Country Accountant primarily responsible is for delivering sound and complaint accounting practice and financial reporting with the Country Team. While Country Accountant coordinates work on a day-to-day basis with Country Director, to whom s/he reports, s/he also works in close collaboration with the Finance Manager Requirements;

  • A Bachelor Degree, or its equivalent, in accounting. A post graduate in accounting is highly desirable
  • Experience in financial management of large projects, preferably for international development donors or organisations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of taxation laws in the country
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS office programs, particularly Excel
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English
  • A high degree of personal initiative, enthusiasm for the work, high level planning, multi-tasking and time management skills and ability to work with minimum supervision in a multi-cultural environment
  • Experience in providing advice and financial capacity building of local partner organisations (desirable)
